Disgruntled EVE blog reader! Post GOD DAMNIT!

So with my EVE playtime diminished my EVE fix comes in the form of reading the blogs of the EVE community. Yet I find myself disappointed in the selection and have a few gripes (Fancy that, I have a gripe) with some of my regular sources. So at the sake of my reputation taking a mud bath (like I have a reputation) and some flames I shall now...

/RANT!

The blog pack save a few regular posters seems filled with pixel based tumble weeds and place holders these days. I am sorry but since the “expansion” the pack has been diluted and lacking. I started to blog about EVE shortly after discovering the pack via capsuleers on my iPhone. The quality and frequency of the posts were inspiring and a great read for a new pilot. So if you are a blog pack member and happen to read this blog. Get your thumb out of your ass and post something damn it. CK needs to get back from vacation and cull the pack IMO.

Another huge disappointment is that I’ve read more about World of Warcraft in the last month on evebloggers.com than I had in the 4 years I actually played WoW. I love evebloggers.com as a source of fresh blogs to follow about our beloved EVE. However sadly I find that of late it has become eveandeveryothergamebloggers.com which makes me sad. I’ll prolly get booted from the sites pages for this, but guys how about some actual checks that the blogs being added are ACTUALLY about EVE eh?

So people please get your blog on and write me something to read! At this point I’d take a blog about the eating habits of an EVE player over the dust bunnies of the blog pack or another freaking story about a gnome rogue zerging some freaking battle ground!

/END RANT!

Cheers

  1. There are a couple noteworthy non-pack blogs out there. Easley (http://couldhavetakenitsolo.wordpress.com/) gives a very good overview of the current 0.0 war from an SC perspective and I'm watching T2 duct tape (http://carebearchronicles.wordpress.com/) which has good posts from a new player in eve-uni. And for the purpose of shameless advertising, I do an NC grunt's perspective of the war at http://eve-fail.blogspot.com/ (I may be terribad but I update regularly).

If you only read via capsuleer I'm not sure these will be useful at all, but maybe google reader has an iphone version or something. Anyway.

  2. Thanks for stopping in Parasoja. I actually just read your blog today. Good stuff. I read most of my blogs via a real PC and the iPhone is for when I am stuck some place and need a quick hit.

I'll give the other two a read.

    Cheers

  3. What really gets me is that there isn't a single source you can go to and get all of the blogs. There is the blog pack, but those elitist bastards (that's you, right?) haven't been blogging lately. Sure, there is CK's list of blogs, but it's terribly laborious to go through it and find something with a recent update or that isn't now a WOW or blog. Then there's Keith Nielson's OMPL, which is a good attempt, but it gets out of date and you've got to be a software engineer (which I am) to make the damn thing work for a reader of your choice.

What we really need is a single feed of all the EVE-specific blogs. That would give us, essentially, what a reader does, without the user having to go and configure the reader. If a blog is active, you'll see it because a post will be in the feed -- but if it's inactive, you won't see it because (and this is genius) it won't have posts in the feed.

I started something like this (with blogs that I like, not with everything) using xFruits, but it's not the perfect solution, and they are still in a beta/experimental stage so it doesn't always work quite right.

Anyway ... I feel your pain.

  4. Thanks for stopping in ParityBit.

I am not blog pack. Not even on CK's blog roll either. I do (perhaps did) appear on evebloggers.com.

I actually love evebloggers.com as its open to all, but all includes far to many "other" game blogs now. So I get extra grumpy when I have to filter through to find EVE content...

Hey if you need a beta tester for your ideals to bring us all together. Shoot me a note mate.

Fortunatly for the good of all (well me) some folks have posted new stuff for me to read.

    Cheers

  5. How many times a damn week do I have to post to give you your "fix"? I try not to be elitist but if other wanna call me that I don't care. As for myself well have not been able to discuss much after the loss in Esoteria, but hell I try to do my best. great now I am grumpy ;)

  6. Thanks for Dropping by Mansai.

You are referred to in the rant above as part of the "a few regular posters" and need do nothing more.

Well perhaps you could use that grumpy mood to put out a challenge to the blog pack. Especially folks who post like once a year. Ya know to have them announce they are breathing in the right direction, or in fact playing WoW and too ashamed it to blog.

    Cheers

P.S. Being Grumpy isn’t all that bad, enjoy it. Let it wash over you. ;)

  7. I know how you feel, when I'm at work with no access to a PC, I lazily rely on the Capsuleer headlines feed to sate my appetite for EVE flavoured morsels. After an initial flurry, the expanded BlogPack output does seem to have dwindled somewhat which is surprising given the increased number of contributors.

However, I think everyone's enthusiasm and available time waxes and wanes with blogging as much as EVE itself, and as always, real-life must come first. I'm sure the imminent expansion will draw many back into the fold.

I personally try to take my position in the BlogPack seriously and realise it is a privilege that many other bloggers may be more deserving of. I also feel a little guilty and awkward given my pre-BlogPack stance. I will certainly endeavour to 'share the wealth' more in future and will endeavour to maintain my output as much as resources allow.

In relation to the blogging community in general and the improvement thereof, Garhead is an EVE blogger who seems quite passionate about making community improvements and I'm sure any contributions would be welcome over at his forums ( http://garhead.eve-host.com/forums/index.php ).

  8. I came back today from a three-day break to see this post and thought, "Huh oh" what did I do? Mostly that was a result of feeling guilty for taking time away from the game, although another three-day weekend is coming up for me.

My own personal rule, and one that so far I've managed to keep, is this: every day I play Eve I post to the blog. Somedays I even manage two or more posts. I imagine the blog as if I was its biggest fan and try to provide content that I would be interested in reading or seeing. Granted some things don't work, but if you don't try then how will you know?

I hope you continue to visit. I wish I was smart enough to figure out a way to organize all of us somehow, but that level of commitment escapes me at the moment.

As a blog reader, I share your concerns however.

  9. Thanks for stopping in Bryan and Seismic.

It's not that anyone person has done anything wrong. Honestly a lot of this rolls back to my own lack of real playtime. When I am living in the blog world for my fix. I read everything I can find. When I hit the end of the list. It's like parking a race car for the night.

I rant because in the end a rant tends to get people talking. Things start to stir and we all take a look at what we are doing and try to do better.

I actually got on last night and got to spend a few hours with one of our seasoned FC for some fun gate camp training. Ended in a nice well executed raven kill. I want to postabout it and will once I get RL work up to snuff.

    Cheers

  11. I am so sorry for you mate. I used to maintain an OPML of all the blogs, Keith has taken that over as I have retired.

You could head over to evebloggers.com as that aggregates all the EVE blogs that exist. Black Claw and Keith work very hard to keep this working smoothly.

If you are looking for the RSS feed that is generated on EVE bloggers, you can use this: http://www.google.com/reader/shared/user/14493398939255456759/label/EVE:%20Player%20Blogs

It's a shared google rss feed that Black Claw creates from his listing and keith's opml. You can use that url in your RSS reader and you will get all the posts to every EVE blog out there.
