LowSec Frigate Cage fight: Good idea or BORING?!?

My own ranting has left me considering a more positive reaction to apparent dwindling of solo PvP action. The idea in my head is simple and revolves around organizing a last pilot standing fight to the death for as many brave and/or crazy frigate pilots who choose to sign up and enter the “CAGE” system to fight.

Of course there will be an entry fee, rules, and prizes for the participants all wrapped into a semi regular event where frigate junkies can get there solo PvP on. Sure you could bring a group, but in the end only one pilot gets the gravy.

The draft rules are simple (and open to suggestion):

- 5M to enter with all ISK going to the Last Frigate flying in fleet (minus fleet referee)
- T1 non faction frigates only with any fittings.
- All entrants join a single fleet and fighting begins when they enter the “CAGE” system
- If you leave the “CAGE” system you are removed from the fleet.
- If you dock in anything in the “CAGE” system you are removed from the fleet.

- If you are in your pod you are removed from the fleet.
- Once removed from the fleet you are out of the fight and no ISK for you.
- Gate crashing the system is allowed and expected.

- No restrictions on implants or boosters.
- Faction/T2 frigates or above are not allowed unless a gate crasher. :)

Fittings are unlimited as warping to fleet member will be allowed and should take care of the cloakers and folks who safe up. The “CAGE” system region will be in LowSec and easy to reach from Null or Empire space. The region will be announced to entrants a week before and the CAGE system 1 hour before the bell.

It’s a simple idea, might have been done before. I think it would be a fun event and I am looking for feedback from the community and bloggers. Perhaps some donated promo art if the graphically inclined a like the idea **hint hint*. Some linkage to the idea and comments if fellow bloggers wish to offer some support **hint hint**. A pilot date and time will be published based on feed back and interest.

Just an Idea, but let me know if you think it’s a good one or just plain BORING!

Cheers

  1. I like the idea. I enjoy frig fights, we've had these in Corp before and they are always fun. I suspect it has been done, but so what?

Go for it,if I can I'll be there.

  2. I, too, like the idea. I'll be there if you don't go all Rixx on me and host it outside of my 2-hour play window. (just kidding, sort of)

  3. I like the idea too, I will plug it for ya, sorry can't help you with any graphics!

I will try to make it, but all depends on the when and where.

Further suggestions would be to have the fight in a system without stations, lowsec, not null so that people who intend to fight get gcced by gates and stations if they aggress there, actually thinking about that maybe null is better to prevent people from sitting on gates and or stations under the guns if you will.

Gonna be a whole lot of Rifters, Incursus, Punishers and Kestrels =)

  10. I like the idea, and I've linked this post from my blog. I've also included a rule suggestion, namely: put in something to discourage ducking and hiding. You've put everyone in a fleet, so you can warp to anyone anywhere, but it would still be possible for a cowardly type to bounce around safe spots avoiding fights until there are only a few left, then engage with full tank and ammo. I’m not sure how to do that – maybe a rule that says you have to appear on a certain number/percentage of killmails, and not all at the end of the event?

  11. @ everyone: Rock on. Your inspiring me to get off my ass and make this happen. Keep the comments going and thanks for the blog link love.

@ Logan: Looking at lowsec systems right now and working out how to keep the ref ship alive in system :) Ideally a stationless system, but yeah gate/station guns could be used, kind of like wall spikes :)

@ Luccul: I was thinking of that. As I plan to try and have a fleet ref in system. There might be some rules/timers around warping fleet to planets at 0 etc. Would only pull those who could warp (aka no scramed folks) to the location. Might make act as a conversation starter. I was thinking that you actually need to kill some one as well as live to get the ISK too. Still ironing out details.

    KEEP the comments comming people.

    Cheers

  13. Sounds like fun, but as Luccul said the referee would definitely need to add rules around cloaking and warping. A common tactic in "last man standing" competitions is to initially play safe and only engage when numbers are reduced.
Bouncing around safes is an obvious ploy. Some suggestions to reward engaging:
    * have multiple prizes - last man standing, most kills, most damage, most final blows. Special awards for anything particularly epic or heroic.
    * have a, possibly several, referees as rally points. Participants are allowed to warp off, warp between refs etc, but will be disqualified if they spend too much time not on-grid with a ref and in reasonable engagement range. Perhaps also move the refs occasionally to avoid getting blobbed by gankers.
